Snow Place Like Home

It was a smaller crowd compared to the past two meets, but that and the snow didn’t stop the vaulters from jumping high. On the girls side Samantha Ringhand took first with her clearance of 10’1”. The mark came after a tough warmup that didn’t seem productive. To clear her head of the warmup, she chose to participate in the long jump competition where she jumped 13’6.5" before returning to the vault runway to clear her winning height. Another highlight from the girls competition was 8th grader Heather Albrinck who claimed a new PR of 8’7”. Moving to the boys side, Jason Deem claimed another victory. After winning the meet with his opening bar (14’7”), Coach Dangel moved the bar to 15’6”, unbeknownst to the vaulter. Deem cleared the bar on his first attempt so Coach again moved the bar to an unknown height of 16’1” where Deem had 3 great shots at the height, but couldn’t quite get the bar to stay up. The winning bar of 15’6” improves upon his previous season best of 15’1”. Cole Dangel competed for the first time this winter and got an easy clearance of 12’7”. Zach Callahan continued his successful junior year with another PR (1”) by clearing 12’1”. All 3 for the boys have a lot left in the tank and should see further improvements throughout the remainder of the season.

Away From Home

There were plenty of other club members competing in other meets this weekend, ranging from Ohio State to Defiance. Top marks from those competing at other meets consist of Claire Iaciofano who cleared 11'6" (tying her PR) for the second meet in a row, showing consistency at higher bars. Top mark for the boys competing elsewhere came from Grant Harrison who cleared 15'. Harrison was coming off a big weekend at the NationalPole Vault Summit last weekend where he set a new personal best (2024 QCVA lead and QCVA Junior Record) of 15'10". Also for the boys, Mack Powers boomed to a new 1' PR, going from 10'6" to 11'6"!
